Golden Hour
Some of the most stunning portraits are captured during what we as photographers call "golden hour". This is when lighting is the softest and you can expect those sun flares creating a fairytale setting. Another suitable lighting condition might be a surprise to most, and that would be partial or full cloud cover! This is desirable because the lighting is evenly balanced so there is much lower chance of dark shadows or blown highlights. During fully bright & sunny days, finding shade under trees or areas that blocks the sun is crucial to well-constructed photos.
